Pelagic Prototype
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
PELAGIC | Prototype
Watch your craft displace undulating layers above and below. Functional inventory tracks pickups which alter the world's visuals. A settings menu offers sandbox access to various parameters. Some settings may produce unpredictable and/or undesirable results. Download it and play with it!
drift and race between the layers
Genesis
This prototype is the result of testing ideas borne from the development of several other projects.
Displaced Space
Pelagic started as an experiment in displacement. Noise is used to create the morphing surfaces.
Push Back
The craft itself emits a displacement field, so it will affect the floor and ceiling geometry, like gliding between the sheets.
Visual Filters
A few screen effects are available to play with. Apply different combinations of settings to adjust the overall look of Pelagic.
Basic Frameworks
The inventory system is functional, although there is no game loop yet. Currently, pickups spawn near you as simple geometric objects. Pickups are broken into different types: Ceiling, Floor, and Both modifiers, Tints, and Shaders.
Tweak It
The Settings menu allows you to adjust things like noise and the effect it has on the world around you. Change colors, lights, fog, pickup spawn timers, craft displacement and handling, and many other tweakable parameters.
Visual Combinations
Use pickups to set different combinations of surface visuals. You can also bypass the pickups and go straight to the Settings menu to apply different tints and shaders to the floor and ceiling.
Silence, For Now
Currently, the sound system is being developed. This prototype does not include any audio. Listen for it in a future update.
One of Many
Pelagic is one of many ideas currently being worked on. Donations will help me to continue with that work, but playing with prototypes is free, go check them out!
